Abia Assembly Majority Leader Smashes Beer Bottle On Colleague’s Head During Fight Over Governor Otti’s Cash Gift

A violent clash reportedly broke out among members of the Abia State House of Assembly when the Majority Leader, Hon. Okoro Uchenna Kalu (Arochukwu Constituency), allegedly smashed a beer bottle on the head of his colleague, Hon. Akachukwu Ucheonye (Aba Central Constituency), during a heated argument over the sharing of a cash gift said to have come from Governor Alex Otti.

According to reports, the altercation occurred at a Labour Party caucus meeting held in the residence of Hon. Fyne Ahuama (Osisioma Ngwa South), with Speaker Emmanuel Emeruwa said to have been present. The disagreement reportedly stemmed from how the governor’s “appreciation gift” for the passage of the state budget would be distributed among lawmakers.

Eyewitnesses claim Ucheonye sustained head injuries and was treated before later joining colleagues on an official trip to London. However, Ucheonye has publicly denied that Kalu attacked him, describing the reports as false and malicious.

The Abia Assembly and the Office of the Governor have yet to issue an official statement regarding the alleged incident.
