EA, known for popular franchises including FIFA soccer games, Madden NFL, The Sims, and Battlefield, reported revenue of $7.5 billion in its most recent fiscal year. Video game giant Electronic Arts announced Monday it would be acquired by a consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund for $55 billion, in what EA said would be the largest all-cash private equity buyout in history.

The consortium also includes US investment firms Silver Lake and Affinity Partners, the Miami-based firm founded by Jared Kushner, former White House advisor and son-in-law of President Donald Trump. “This moment is a powerful recognition of their remarkable work,” EA Chairman and CEO Andrew Wilson said of the company’s employees in a statement, adding the deal would help “unlock new opportunities on a global stage.”

Sports: Infantino Gets Re-Election Boost After Securing Asia, Africa’s Backing

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has received a major boost in his bid for re-election after securing the support of both the Confederation of African Football and the Asian Football Confederation ahead of the 2027 FIFA presidential election. The two confederations control 101 votes out of FIFA’s 211-member voting bloc, giving Infantino a strong advantage as he seeks another term in office. The AFC and CAF publicly endorsed Infantino following his confirmation at FIFA’s Congress in Vancouver that he intends to run again in 2027. AFC President Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa praised Infantino’s leadership, stating that FIFA is currently in its strongest position and reaffirming Asia’s continued support since his first election in 2016. Infantino, who became FIFA president in 2016 after the downfall of Sepp Blatter amid a corruption scandal, has overseen major reforms and record revenues during his tenure. Despite criticism over his ties to Donald Trump and controversial changes such as the expansion of the FIFA World Cup to 48 teams, FIFA says the organisation has significantly increased funding for its member associations through the FIFA Forward Program.
