World Poetry Day is an occasion to honour poets and revive oral traditions of poetry recitals. It is also an opportunity to promote reading, writing, and the teaching of poetry, to foster the convergence of poetry with other creative disciplines such as theatre, dance, music, and painting, and to raise awareness about poetry in the media.
