The revered Christian leader, widely known for his decades of impactful crusades, healing ministries, and nation-building messages, passed on peacefully after a lifetime of service to God and humanity.

Dr. Ukpai’s ministry touched millions across Nigeria and beyond, earning him respect as one of Africa’s foremost evangelists. Details of his passing and burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family and the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association in due course.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on security following rising cases of killings, kidnappings, terrorist attacks, and community destruction across the country. At its National Church Denominational Leaders’ Summit in Abuja, the association expressed concern over the worsening security situation, particularly the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in several states. CAN also declared a three-day national mourning period from June 12 to June 14, 2026, with June 14 designated as “Black Sunday” in honour of victims of violence. The body further urged the government to strengthen security operations, establish state police, and ensure the safe return of all abducted Nigerians.
