Britain’s King Charles III is expected to call on US President Donald Trump to “come together” with the United Kingdom during a high-profile state visit aimed at easing diplomatic tensions linked to the Iran conflict.
On the second day of the four-day visit, King Charles will be formally received at the White House with full ceremonial honours, including a 21-gun salute and military parade, before delivering a rare address to the US Congress.
In his speech, the King is expected to emphasise “reconciliation and renewal” and highlight the importance of the long-standing “special relationship” between the United Kingdom and the United States, which has come under strain in recent months.
The visit will also include a private meeting in the Oval Office between King Charles, Queen Camilla, President Trump, and First Lady Melania Trump, followed later in the evening by a formal state dinner at the White House.
Earlier events in the visit included a more informal reception, where the presidential couple hosted the royal pair for tea and a tour of the White House grounds, including its beehives, as well as a garden reception at the British embassy.
The King’s address to Congress will mark the first time a British monarch has spoken to US lawmakers since Queen Elizabeth II’s visit in 1991, underscoring the diplomatic significance of the moment.
He is expected to stress shared democratic values such as liberty and equality, while urging both nations to strengthen cooperation at a time of global uncertainty.
The visit comes amid reported tensions between London and Washington over differing positions on the Iran conflict, with the UK seeking to maintain strong ties despite political disagreements.

King Charles is also expected to deliver remarks at the state dinner, reinforcing themes of unity and historical partnership between the two nations.
The programme continues with royal engagements in New York before the delegation concludes the visit later in the week.
