Technology: Nigeria Must Lead AI Revolution, Not Merely Consume It — Galaxy Backbone

The Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB), Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, has urged Nigeria to take a leading role in the global artificial intelligence revolution rather than remain a consumer of technologies developed elsewhere. Speaking in Abuja during activities marking the organisation’s 20th anniversary, Adeyanju stressed that digital capabilities will determine future national competitiveness and called for greater investment in innovation, collaboration, and local technology development. Established in 2006 by the Federal Government, Galaxy Backbone has grown into a key digital infrastructure provider supporting government institutions through connectivity, cloud services, cybersecurity, data hosting, and digital platforms. Adeyanju said the organisation’s future focus will include artificial intelligence, cloud computing, automation, data analytics, and cybersecurity, while expanding digital access and supporting Nigeria’s participation in the global digital economy. He added that the company’s upcoming Digital Transformation Summit will bring together stakeholders to explore ways technology can improve governance, economic growth, and public service delivery.
