Respected community leader and humanitarian, Hon. Sir Abraham U. Hon. Oba expressed deep concern over the skyrocketing prices of house and shop rents, which have placed unbearable financial strain on many residents, especially in the commercial city of Aba. According to him, the current situation is forcing many Abians into economic hardship, with some battling health issues such as high blood pressure due to the overwhelming burden of bills and daily expenses.

"We can no longer turn a blind eye to the suffering of our people," he stated. "Families are being displaced, small businesses are collapsing, and the average Abian is suffocating under the weight of rent, utility bills, and inflated costs of basic needs."

He called on the Abia State House of Assembly to conduct an immediate review of the activities of middlemen and landlords, whom he accused of contributing to the crisis through exploitative practices.

Hon. Oba urged the government to enact policies and reforms that would:

Regulate rental prices across the state,

Introduce rent control measures,

Promote affordable housing initiatives, and

Curb the excesses of unregulated real estate agents and property developers.

He emphasized that if urgent steps are not taken, more residents will be forced to relocate back to their villages, further weakening the urban economy and increasing poverty levels.

Hon. Sir Abraham U. Oba reaffirmed his commitment to standing with the people and advocating for policies that will alleviate their burdens and improve the standard of living in Abia State.
