Ikenna Ukwa to Empower Market Women with Business Support Grants

A Senior Legislative Aide to the Senate President of Nigeria, Hon. (Dr) Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa, has pledged to empower market women and traders within the Abam chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) through a business support grant aimed at boosting their enterprises.

Ukwa made this commitment during an interactive session with APC women leaders held recently in Ozu Abam, Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State.

The meeting, convened by the Abia State APC Women Leader, Chief (Mrs) Ezinne Udo Uduma, at the instance of Hon. Ikenna Ukwa, provided an avenue for the philanthropist and political leader to interact directly with the women and share updates on his ongoing community development projects.

Speaking at the event, Ukwa revealed that he is working tirelessly to attract solar-powered streetlights to Abam communities by the first quarter of next year, reaffirming his commitment to improving the welfare and well-being of his people.

“I thank you all for attending this meeting. Your presence here means a lot to me and demonstrates the love you have for the Ikenna Ukwa Progressive Group (IUPG) and the APC at large,” he said.
“I will always carry you along in all we do, and I want you to know that your welfare will remain my utmost priority,” he added.

In her remarks, Chief (Mrs) Ezinne Udo Uduma appreciated the women for turning out en masse to welcome Ikenna Ukwa and urged them to remain steadfast in their support for the APC at the ward, local government, state, and national levels. She praised Ukwa’s selfless leadership and passion for community development, noting that his numerous humanitarian gestures speak volumes even without holding an elective office.

She highlighted some of Ikenna Ukwa’s notable achievements, including:

Installation of solar-powered streetlights in Abiriba, Ebem, Okon, Amaekpu, Elu, and Oboro (Ohafia LGA), as well as Ututu, Isu, Ihechiowa, and Obinkita (Arochukwu LGA);

Distribution of food items and fertilizers to women in Ohafia and Arochukwu communities;

She called on the women to mobilize more members into the party and the Ikenna Ukwa Progressive Group (IUPG) while offering him their full support in future political endeavors.

Also speaking, a former Abia State Commissioner and APC stalwart, Hon. Chidiebere Uwagwu, commended Ikenna Ukwa’s leadership and unifying efforts within the party. He described Ukwa as a compassionate leader dedicated to alleviating the suffering of the people through infrastructural development, empowerment programs, and the provision of basic amenities.

Just In: SMART SCHOOL OR SMART LOOTING? ANOTHER RECEIPT FROM IGBERE

This image is Elu-Okwe Primary School in Amaukwu Igbere, Bende LGA—a living, breathing school, not a rumour or propaganda. Yet the Abia State Government claimed it was demolished because it had been awarded for upgrade to a smart school. Today, no smart school exists. The roof is failing, classrooms leak, and pupils still run for cover whenever it rains. Despite community appeals for urgent renovation, intervention was halted on the grounds that the project had been “awarded.” Months later, nothing has happened. This raises serious questions about the state’s claim of spending ₦100 billion on public school repairs. Smart schools do not disappear, and infrastructure does not exist only on paper. Abia people are no longer asking for explanations—they are demanding results. Where are the smart schools?

The Office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives has dismissed as false and misleading the Abia State Government’s claims concerning infrastructure projects attracted by Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu. The office clarified that the land along the Umuahia–Bende Road was communally donated, not allocated by the state government, and described allegations of unauthorized demolition of school facilities as baseless. It further accused the Otti administration of deliberate propaganda aimed at undermining genuine development efforts, while reaffirming the Deputy Speaker’s commitment to attracting critical infrastructure to Abia State in the interest of the people.
