Just In: Rep. Benjamin Okezie Kalu Pays Tribute at Funeral of Colleague’s Mother

Today, I stood in solidarity with my dear brother and colleague, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, Member representing Nkanu East and West Federal Constituency, alongside other members of the National Assembly, as we joined his family to bid a final farewell to their beloved matriarch, Mrs. Monica Nnenna Nnaji.

Mama Nnaji was a remarkable woman of strength and uncommon grace who, despite losing her husband at a young age, singlehandedly raised her four sons to positions of prominence and impact in society, of whom Hon. Nnolim Nnaji is one.

In moments like this, words often fall short. I commiserate with my brother, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, and the entire Nnaji family of Akpugo, Nkanu West LGA, and pray that God grants them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

Top story: Muslim Faithful Nigeria Mark End Of Ramadan

Muslim faithful across Nigeria have celebrated Eid-el-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan with large gatherings in major cities such as Abuja, Lagos, Kano, and Maiduguri. Worshippers thronged designated prayer grounds to observe special Eid prayers, expressing gratitude and seeking blessings after a month of fasting and devotion. In their sermons, religious leaders emphasized the importance of peace, compassion, and social responsibility, urging both leaders and citizens to uphold unity and contribute to national development. The celebrations were also marked by messages of goodwill and reflections on the spiritual lessons of Ramadan. President Bola Tinubu, in his Sallah message, encouraged Muslims to sustain the values of piety, kindness, and selflessness beyond the fasting period. Similarly, Vice President Kashim Shettima called for national unity, noting that shared religious observances should strengthen bonds among Nigerians. Security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, deployed personnel nationwide to ensure safety at prayer grounds and public spaces. The heightened security presence, along with patrols and surveillance operations, helped maintain order as citizens marked the festive occasion peacefully.

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), under the leadership of Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has adopted Chief Donatus Nwankpa and Barrister Ogbonna as consensus candidates for key positions ahead of the party’s national convention. The move reflects growing unity within the Abia APC and a strategic effort to strengthen internal cohesion, promote collective interest over individual ambition, and position the party for greater influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
