Just In: Kalu Backs Tinubu’s Call for Transparency, Urges Abians to Demand Accountability

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, PhD, CFR, has backed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s call for Nigerians to hold their state governors accountable over the management of public funds and development inflows.

President Tinubu had recently charged citizens to demand full transparency from their state governments regarding federal allocations, internally generated revenue, and intervention funds meant for infrastructure, education, ICT, youth development, and empowerment. According to the President, any government that fails to disclose such financial details to the public could be concealing deeper issues of mismanagement or deliberate opacity.

Supporting the President’s stance, Kalu said the message was particularly relevant to Abia State, where citizens have continued to raise concerns about the lack of transparency in the management of federal inflows and development funds.

“President Tinubu’s call is timely and should not be taken lightly,” Kalu stated. “Every governor owes it to the people to open the books and show how public funds are spent. Transparency and accountability are not acts of opposition — they are the basic pillars of democracy and responsible governance.”

Kalu urged Abians to remain vigilant and continue to engage their leaders constructively, noting that democracy thrives only when the people actively demand openness and accountability from those in power.

He reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to supporting reforms and policies that enhance fiscal responsibility and transparency across all levels of government, stressing that development can only be sustained when public resources are managed with integrity and honesty.
