The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria and leading financial institutions, has introduced a new multi-purpose National Identity Card. This updated card will function as a traditional identity card while offering debit card features, enabling Nigerians to make payments, access social intervention programs, and receive government benefits directly. Officials say this initiative will bridge the gap between identity verification and financial access, particularly for unbanked citizens in rural areas.
