Environment: France Pushes Back Plastic Cup Ban By Four Years

The ban, initially scheduled to take effect on January 1, was delayed following a review by the Ministry for Ecological Transition, which questioned the technical feasibility of fully eliminating plastic from cups at this time. Environmental groups have criticised the move as a setback in the fight against plastic pollution, arguing that workable solutions already exist but lack sufficient investment and regulatory support. France has introduced several measures to curb single-use plastics, but campaigners say progress remains slow despite a 2020 law targeting the complete phase-out of such products by 2040.
