Speaking during the peaceful protest, Appolos Ufomba Friday, the community’s spokesman, revealed that the portion of land being illegally encroached upon is supported by a high court judgement with Suit No. A/70/2010.

He stated that former Governor TA Orji revoked the land back to the owners and also the immediate past Governor Dr Okezie Ikpeazu complied with the judgement.

The protesters claimed that the community, through their late traditional ruler, the late Eze Emmanuel Onyeohoo, had allocated a parcel of land to the Abia State Government for the construction of Abia State Polytechnic, now known as Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic Aba, but it is disturbing that some unknown individuals are now threatening and intimidating the defenceless indigenes of the community on the remaining parcel of land.

The community pointed out that, having already surrendered land to the government for the establishment of Abia State Polytechnic new site without collecting any money, they are unable to give up another portion of land as their population density is not commensurate with the remaining land.

In his reaction, Barr. Obiora Edward the legal practitioner in charge of the matter, said that some unknownn persons who no longer have any parcel of land where seeing encroaching and illegally acquiring lands that is legally and legitimately belonged to his clients.

As the lawyer noted, frantic measures were taken to alert the Government to the matter, but they were abortive.

The lawyer claimed that his clients were not contacted and did not receive any compensation.

He further stated that they are alerting the world to the illegal acquisition of lands by unfamiliar persons.

The community further issues a formal appeal to Governor Alex Otti to caution the perpetrators who they alleged are misusing his name.
