UK’s Starmer Launches Tiktok Account Despite Ban
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer launched a TikTok account on Monday, despite the app being banned from government devices over data security concerns. A spokesman said “security mitigations” were in place for the account. Starmer’s first posts included the Downing Street Christmas lights ceremony and meetings with Ukraine’s President Zelensky, France’s Emmanuel Macron, and Germany’s Friedrich Merz. The move is seen as an effort to engage younger voters, complementing his recent Substack newsletter and other digital outreach initiatives. TikTok remains one of the world’s most popular social media apps, with 1.5 billion users globally and over 30 million in the UK.
