Trump Drops South Africa From 2026 G20, Cites ‘Human Right Abuses’

"South Africa has demonstrated to the World they are not a country worthy of Membership anywhere," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

US President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that South Africa would not be invited to next year’s G20 summit in Miami, taking his diplomatic offensive against the country to a new level.

Trump cited what he described as “horrific Human Right Abuses” endured by white farmers, and South Africa’s refusal to symbolically hand off the G20 presidency at the end of this year’s summit to the United States.

“South Africa has demonstrated to the World they are not a country worthy of Membership anywhere,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Trump’s government snubbed this year’s G20 summit, which recently concluded in Johannesburg, saying South Africa’s priorities, including cooperation on trade and climate, ran counter to its policies.

In response, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa refused to formally hand over the G20 presidency to the next host country, the United States, as is customary.

Trump’s officials have also made unfounded accusations of a “white genocide” targeting Afrikaners, descendants of the first European settlers, in South Africa.

“The South African Government refuses to acknowledge or address the horrific Human Right Abuses endured by Afrikaners, and other descendants of Dutch, French, and German settlers,” Trump wrote in his post on Wednesday. “To put it more bluntly, they are killing white people, and randomly allowing their farms to be taken from them.”

In May, at the White House, Trump ambushed Ramaphosa by showing him a video riddled with errors, supposedly proving his accusations, which South Africa denies.

The G20 summit, a format that brings together the world’s 20 largest economies, is scheduled to take place in December 2026 at the Trump National Doral Miami golf resort in Florida, owned by the US president’s family.

New York Times Sues Pentagon Over Restrictive Media Policy

The New York Times has filed a lawsuit against the United States Department of Defense, challenging a newly introduced Pentagon media policy it describes as unconstitutional and a direct violation of press freedom. The newspaper argues that the policy restricts journalists’ long-standing right to question government officials and independently gather information beyond official statements. Several major US and international media organizations, including AFP, AP, Fox News, and The New York Times, refused to sign the policy in mid-October and subsequently lost their Pentagon press credentials. The new rules also impose movement restrictions within the Pentagon and have sharply reduced official press briefings. The lawsuit follows a series of actions by the Defense Department that critics say are aimed at limiting media access and replacing independent outlets with media figures perceived to be more favorable to the current administration.

Netanyahu Seeks Pardon In Corruption Cases

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has formally requested a pardon from President Isaac Herzog amid ongoing corruption trials that have deeply divided the country. Netanyahu, who denies wrongdoing, cited the political and social strain caused by the nearly six-year-long cases as justification. The request follows a letter from former US President Donald Trump urging Herzog to grant clemency. Legal experts and opposition leaders argue that only a convicted individual can be pardoned, while supporters claim the move could help heal national divisions. Herzog’s decision could take weeks and is likely to face legal challenges.
