Iran has stated that the United States is no longer in a position to dictate policy to sovereign nations, amid ongoing diplomatic tensions over the future of the Strait of Hormuz and a new proposal currently under review in Washington.
According to Iranian defence ministry spokesman Reza Talaei-Nik, speaking on state television, Washington must recognise that it can no longer impose “illegal and irrational demands” on other countries, including Iran.
The comments come as the United States considers a fresh Iranian proposal aimed at reopening the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil and gas exports that has been heavily affected since the outbreak of conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran.
Iran is reported to have tightened control over the waterway during the early stages of the conflict, causing significant disruptions in global energy markets and making the strait a central issue in ongoing negotiations.
Although a ceasefire has paused active fighting between the parties, diplomatic efforts to reach a lasting settlement have so far failed to produce a final agreement.

Talaei-Nik also indicated that Iran is prepared to expand defence cooperation with “independent countries,” particularly members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, as part of its broader foreign policy and security strategy.
