Moment Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu Pleads With President Tinubu for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release
There was a touching moment on the floor of the House of Representatives when Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, passionately appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to employ political, diplomatic, and fatherly understanding in securing the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to enable lasting peace and reconciliation in the South-East region.
Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State, made the plea during Tuesday’s plenary while addressing national unity and security challenges. He emphasized that Kanu’s release would serve as a major step toward healing the wounds of the past and fostering renewed confidence between the Federal Government and the people of the South-East.
The Deputy Speaker noted that President Tinubu, being a leader known for dialogue and inclusion, has the capacity to resolve the lingering issue through a political solution. He urged the President to consider the move as a gesture of goodwill that would strengthen peace efforts and promote national cohesion across Nigeria.
