Former Vice President pledges loyalty to party decision ahead of 2027 elections
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that he will support whoever emerges as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general elections.
Atiku made the statement while speaking on party unity and the need for cohesion among political actors ahead of the next election cycle.
He stressed that internal democracy and respect for party processes must remain central to the ADC’s political strategy going forward.
According to him, personal ambition should not override collective interest, adding that the strength of any political party lies in its ability to present a united front.
The former presidential candidate noted that once a credible candidate emerges through a transparent process, all members are expected to rally behind that choice.
He further emphasized that fragmentation within opposition parties has historically weakened their chances in national elections.
Atiku said his position was aimed at reinforcing discipline and encouraging political maturity among party members as preparations for 2027 begin to take shape.
Political analysts say his remarks may be intended to signal reconciliation and strengthen opposition alignment ahead of a potentially competitive election.
The ADC, which has been seeking to expand its national relevance, is expected to begin early consultations and internal structuring ahead of candidate emergence.

Observers note that Atiku’s endorsement of any eventual candidate could significantly influence party cohesion and voter perception going into the 2027 polls.
