Politics: Aba Central State Constituency Stakeholders Reject “Abuja-Imposed” Candidate

Stakeholders in the Aba Central State Constituency have strongly condemned the alleged claim by some political aspirants that grassroots support within the constituency is unnecessary because party leaders in Abuja would hand over the ticket to them.

According to the stakeholders, such a statement undermines the importance of ward structures and the efforts of party faithful who have continued to build the party from the grassroots level. They described the development as disturbing and capable of creating division within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

The stakeholders recalled that the leadership of the party had earlier directed all aspirants seeking elective positions to return to their various wards, identify with party members at the grassroots, and work closely with them.

They stressed that the directive was meant to strengthen unity within the party and ensure that candidates emerge through acceptance and credibility among the people. According to them, any aspirant ignoring this instruction is disregarding the foundation and structure of the party in the constituency.

Furthermore, leaders across the various wards in Aba Central State Constituency reportedly rejected in strong terms the idea of imposing a candidate from Abuja while other aspirants continue to work tirelessly to promote and project the image of the party among the people.

They maintained that the success of the party in future elections depends heavily on the commitment and sacrifices of grassroots mobilizers who engage directly with the electorate at the community level.

The stakeholders, therefore, called on the National Working Committee (NWC), State Working Committee (SWC), and Local Government Working Committee (LGWC) to resist any attempt to impose candidate on the constituency. They warned that such actions could damage the party’s image and weaken its chances in the 2027 elections. They further advised all aspirants seeking political offices to return to the grassroots, prove their capacity, and earn the acceptance of the people in order to secure victory for the party at the polls.
